Homage to the Square
This series is Devi’s mathematical homage to geometric abstraction: taking cues from Josef Albers’ Homage to the Square and Donald Judd’s three-dimensional sculptures. Each piece begins with a grid or set of superimposed squares, translated into shimmering layers of densely placed sequins and beads on white canvas. The result is a tactile, couture-infused reinterpretation of mid-century minimalism - and was the winning submission of the Hand & Lock Prize in 2016.
